- It uses blended learning format with in person, online and in-work components.

Outline:
Program Content and Structure:
- This 120-credit program runs for 40 weeks including holidays.
- Each week involves:
- 9 hrs of in-person, online and in-work learning:
- This includes lectures, tutorials, workshops and industry-based activities.
- 11 hrs of industry experience:
- Students participate in actual events and performances open to the public.
- 14 hrs of study time:
- Students undertake independent learning, assignments, and self-directed practice.
Course Schedule and Modules:
- Industry Practice – Live Sound Systems (30 credits): This module covers installation, operation, and removal of sound equipment for complex events, performances or live recordings.
- Option B (Paper-Based):
- Industry Practice – Lighting Systems (30 credits): (Paper-based course)

Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements:
Domestic Applicants:
- At least one of the following qualifications:
- NCEA Level 2
- Equivalent skills and experience (assessed on a case-by-case basis)
- Meeting specific requirements determined by the Executive Dean
Additional Requirements:
- Unit standard 17600: Explain safe work practices for working at heights (must hold or be in the process of obtaining)
- Meeting with the Programme Leader to discuss the program and industry environment
English Language Proficiency:
- If English is not your first language: IELTS overall band score (academic) of 5.5 with no band score less than 5 (or equivalent)
International Applicants:
- In addition to Domestic Entry Requirements:
- IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5 (or equivalent)
- NCEA equivalency (for applicants under 20 years of age)
Additional Points:
- Learners should be aware of the physical requirements of the program, which may involve lifting heavy equipment. Reasonable fitness and strength are recommended.
- Learners are encouraged to disclose any special needs or requirements in writing to the Executive Dean before starting the program. Evidence is required before program acceptance.
- A current full driver's license is recommended.
- Learners will be placed in live production settings organized by UCOL to achieve the required work experience hours. This may involve long or irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
