The Hartt School offers a commercial music concentration for students enrolled in the Composition, Music Management, or Music Production & Technology Bachelor of Music programs. This concentration allows students to pursue musical excellence while developing skills for a career in the music industry.


Requirements:

Students must pass an interview and audition to be admitted into the program.


Audition Requirements:

  • Instruments:
  • Bass, Keyboard, Guitar:
  • Three songs (one may be original for Composition majors)
  • Two major and two minor scales
  • Two major and two minor triad arpeggios (all in two octaves)
  • Drums:
  • Two songs
  • An improvised drum solo (approximately one minute)
  • Technical demonstration of various drum rudiments played at different tempos
  • Voice:
  • Three songs (one a cappella)
  • Vocalizing exercises demonstrating range and flexibility
  • Remote Auditions: Students have the option to submit video recordings of their audition performances.
  • The video portfolio should include:
  • One personal introduction video
  • Two-four song performance videos with introductions
  • One technical skills video with identification of each element
