Program Overview
The BS in Health Sciences, Pre-Pharmacy Program at the University of Hartford is a seven-year program that combines a BS in health sciences with a PharmD degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy. Degree Overview:
This program offers a unique opportunity for students with career goals in pharmacy. It allows for the completion of the BS/PharmD degrees in a combined seven-year period.
Outline:
The first three years focus on completing the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health sciences degree. This includes:
- Pre-Pharmacy science courses like Introductory Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, Molecular Cell Biology, College Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.
- General education courses like Academic Writing, Everyday Statistics, Introduction to Healthcare Professions, Business and Professional Communication, and Introduction to Psychology.
- Additional health science coursework (3 credits) and Premedical Professions Studies (3 credits). The final four years consist of professional pharmacy training at the Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy.
Careers:

Other:
- Applicants should have a strong academic record with at least a B average overall and in the sciences during the first three years of high school.
- They should rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class and achieve a combined score of at least 1100 (Verbal and Math) on the SAT.
- Students must send a letter of intent to NDM-SOP upon matriculation at the University of Hartford.
- They need to complete at least 90 credits of coursework, including all necessary prerequisites, by the end of the third year at UHart.
- Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 overall and in the sciences.
- A satisfactory performance on the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) is also required.
- Students must obtain a recommendation for admission to NDM-SOP from the health science, pre-pharmacy advisor and/or a letter of recommendation from the University Premedical Professional Advisory Committee.
