Offered in three discrete modules that can be taken independently or sequentially, it grants 40 CE units for each module completed. Enrollment is open to various categories of medical professionals, namely, licensed physical therapists and/or students enrolled concurrently in MGH's Clinical Residency program. This course seeks to create a robust understanding in its students towards the theory and hands-on practice employed in orthopaedic therapy.


It boasts a strong dedication to both evidence-based practice and practical execution of manual treatments, making it unique in the greater Northeast region.

All students are expected actively to engage in lab settings and demonstrate their mastery of practical elements.


Ultimately, this course endeavors to elevate the proficiency of participating medical professionals in the treatment of musculoskeletal ailments.


Outline:


The offered course encompasses three thematic modules:


Module 1 - Spine:

This module, spanning from October 1, 2023 – December 9, 2023 , delves into knowledge and practices surrounding spinal ailments.


Its curriculum boasts online content delivered between October 1st and end of the course, and on-site practice sessions conducted on:

  • October 28th - Cervical Spine
  • October 29th - Thoracic Spine
  • December 2nd - Lumbar Spine
  • Review Day (December 3rd)
  • The online curriculum component will operate from the module’s starting date until the termination date, with these in-person sessions:

  • Feb 4 - Shoulder
  • 2.
  • March 3 (2 sections)- Elbow (morning sessions) and Wrist Hand (midday - close) and review session (closing hours)
  • Wrist Hand (continuing from previous day) as well as Module review session in the
  • afternoons (led by Katie Beal & Reginal Wilcox)

These evaluations ultimately help students gauge their competency and refine practical application proficiency in line with current best evidence-based medical practices. Upon successful completion of exams, participants are awarded 40 CEs per module (120 for a full set).

Elevating Practice in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy - Entry Requirements:


Entry Requirements:

  • Licensed Physical Therapist: Applicants must be currently licensed as a physical therapist in the United States or have graduated from an accredited physical therapy program.
  • Current CPR Certification: Applicants must have current CPR certification.
  • Previous Anatomy Coursework: Applicants must have completed a college-level anatomy course.
  • Good Academic Standing: Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • International Applicants: Applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents must meet the same requirements as domestic applicants.
  • Additionally, they must provide proof of English language proficiency.
  • Application Process: Applicants must submit an online application, transcripts, resume, two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • English Language Proficiency: International applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting a score of at least 79 on the TOEFL iBT, 6.5 on the IELTS, or 120 on the Duolingo English Test.
