The program integrates all the training and supplementary certificates required for the MNZ Mate Fishing Vessel - Unlimited COC, including STCW basic safety training, advanced firefighting, PISC and rescue boats, and GMDSS Radio Operator qualifications.

The Maritime Operations - Mate Fishing Vessel Unlimited program equips students with the skills and qualifications necessary to obtain their Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) Mate Fishing Vessel - Unlimited Certificate of Competency (COC). This qualification allows graduates to work as Mate on fishing vessels of 24m or more in any operating area at sea.


Description:

This program is designed for individuals who have been working at sea, offshore, on a fishing vessel of 12m or more for at least 24 months and are seeking to advance their careers to working in unlimited waters. It integrates all the training and supplementary certificates required for the MNZ Mate Fishing Vessel - Unlimited COC, including STCW basic safety training, advanced firefighting, PISC and rescue boats, and GMDSS Radio Operator qualifications.


Structure:

The program is divided into two parts:

  • Upon completion of the program, graduates can return after 12 months to pursue the Skipper Fishing Vessel - Unlimited certification, enabling them to obtain the skills and qualifications for the MNZ Skipper Fishing Vessel - Unlimited COC.
  • Please note that the program may not be currently accepting new students.
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSS311B): This module addresses personal safety and social responsibility issues relevant to the maritime industry.
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (SBT311): This compulsory module provides basic safety training for seafarers, covering topics such as fire safety, personal survival, and first aid.
  • Passage Planning (PAS411): This compulsory module covers the principles of passage planning, including route planning, weather forecasting, and collision avoidance.
  • Seamanship - Fishing (SEA411B): This module provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to operate fishing vessels safely and efficiently.
  • STCW Advanced Firefighting (FFT511): This compulsory module builds upon the skills learned in the STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting module, covering more advanced firefighting techniques and procedures.
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (SCC511): This compulsory module focuses on operating survival craft and rescue boats in emergency situations.
  • STCW Medical First Aid (FAC511): This module provides participants with advanced first aid skills and knowledge.
  • Compass Navigation (CMP611): This compulsory module covers navigation using a compass.
  • Fishing Vessel Construction (CON612): This compulsory module focuses on the construction and design of fishing vessels.
  • Electronic Navigation Aids (ENS611): This module covers the principles of operation and use of electronic navigation aids.
  • Fishing Vessel Operations (FVO611): This compulsory module covers the operation and management of fishing vessels.
  • STCW Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMD611): This compulsory module covers the use of the GMDSS for maritime distress and safety communications.
  • Watchkeeper Competency (WCO611): This compulsory module covers the responsibilities and duties of a watchkeeper on board a ship.
  • Ship Stability Fishing Vessels (STA612): This module covers the principles of ship stability, with a focus on fishing vessels.
  • Ship Stability (STA613): This module provides a more general overview of ship stability principles.
