Designing professional development to improve the teaching of school mathematics
Program start date | Application deadline |

2024-10-01 | - |
Program Overview
It seeks to develop knowledge on effective design by drawing on insights from mathematics teacher education literature and educational design findings. The program addresses the challenges of traditional professional development methods and aims to create a more tailored and adaptable program that meets the specific needs of teachers.
Program Outline
Secondary teachers have demanding jobs, making fitting in professional development opportunities challenging. Maximizing these experiences and devising ways for teachers to benefit as much as possible is critical. While traditional standalone days of professional development training can be expensive, disruptive to schools, and unlikely to meet teachers’ specific needs, a more tailored programme adaptable to individual requirements seems preferable.
Other
- Secondary teachers face highly demanding schedules, making scheduling for professional development challenging.
- Traditional methods like standalone professional development sessions may not be cost-effective, potentially disrupt school routines, and fail to address individual teacher needs.
- It is expected that research findings in the mathematics teacher education literature alongside knowledge gained in educational design will inform and contribute to this project.
