Degree Overview:

To provide students with a strong grounding in the disciplines of Economics and International Relations, including micro and macro economics, labour and development economics, international political economy, globalization, international public policy, comparative politics and regional studies, international security and international relations theory.
To give students grounding in these issues and flexibility to specialize in particular themes, topics, and areas.

The recent pandemic has shown the interconnected nature of the global economy and the importance of understanding the structures and economic policies of different countries.
This degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to analyse and address complex economic and international relations challenges.
Students will develop a strong sense of intellectual integrity, acquire substantial knowledge in the broad fields of Economics and International Relations, and apply these skills to real-world situations.

Outline:

Students can complete their degree in three, four, or five years.
Students can choose to spend a year studying abroad or take a year in industry in Year 3.
Students can also take an integrated foundation year before Year 1.

Students may also choose up to two modules (30 credits) from any other degree programme offered by Queen Mary (subject to availability).
Students may choose one module (15 credits) at level 5.

Assessed through a variety of methods including formal examinations, in-class tests, coursework of various forms, presentations, independent dissertation.
Most modules will have two methods of assessment.

Taught by academic staff and smaller classes.
Approximately 3 hours of weekly contact time per module.
For every hour spent in class, students will complete a further 2-3 hours of independent study.
Students have access to support from the School of Economics and Finance.

The programme is designed for students who have completed a good high school education that includes at least 12 years of study.
The programme combines a three-year degree with a bespoke foundation year.
The foundation year provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the degree.
The programme is taught in one of Queen Mary's newest buildings, the Graduate Centre.
The building has a Harvard-style lecture theatre, spacious seminar rooms, and a café.
A trading floor set up with Bloomberg terminals
Subscriptions to major statistical databases and software packages

Students are assigned an academic advisor who will guide and support them throughout their studies.
