This four-week online program explores global governance challenges, including international coordination, cultural differences, and the roles of companies, NGOs, and governments. The program is designed for mid-career professionals with a 2:1 degree and three years of relevant work experience.
Program Outline
Degree Overview: This module focuses on challenges in working internationally and asks: "What are the global governance issues we face today?" Building on theory, interviews with practitioners, and case studies, it addresses concerns in international coordination, supra-national organizations, and cultural issues. It explores relationships between companies, NGOs, and governments in fighting for health, poverty, clean energy, and economic growth.

- Week 1: New challenges to working internationally and the role of international institutions
- Discussing key challenges for civil servants.
- Learning about multilateralism and its norms and instruments.
- Understanding different international institutions and their roles.
- Understanding the difference between treaties, conventions, agreements, and policies as part of international relations.
- Week 2: Unilateralism, bilateralism, multilateralism, and navigating cultural differences
- Comparing unilateralism, bilateralism, and multilateralism.
- Discussing globalization, its drivers, and barriers.
- Understanding the role of culture and cultural differences.
- Exploring negotiation and dispute resolution in practice.
- Using real-life case studies.
- Week 3: Working with the EU and non-state actors
- Learning about the structure of the EU, its institutions, and its relationship with non-members.
- Introduction to relationships with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), including think tanks and multinational corporations.
- Discussing lobbying and city collaboration in detail.
Assessment:
- One written assignment
- Participation in webinars and discussion forums
