Summer Workshop on Surgical and Interventional Engineering
Degree Overview
This workshop aims to educate participants on the latest advancements in Surgical and Interventional Engineering (SIE) through a combination of lectures and hands-on projects.
- Gain hands-on experience with advanced surgical instrumentation setups.
- Interact with scientists from the international community and world-renowned experts.
Program Description:
The workshop will be delivered in a hybrid format, with participants joining in person or online via MS Teams.

- Interventional planning using AI and computational modeling
- Development of miniature surgical tools and imaging instrumentation
- Integration of medical imaging and navigation technology with novel sensors and actuators
- Regulatory and commercial aspects of bringing SIE technologies to the clinic
Hands-on projects:
- Autonomous tracking of an abdominal phantom using computer vision and a robotic manipulator
- Real-time vasculature and tool segmentation in a phantom eye
- Semi-autonomous illumination in vitreoretinal surgery
- Feature extraction and visualization techniques in vestibular schwannoma
- Surgical data science for surgical team dynamics
