Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Diabetes (Module 1)

is a 7-week online course offering practical training in diabetes-specific cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

  • Develop basic CBT skills, including formulating a five-area analysis of diabetes-specific problems (diabetes distress).

Program Description:

This intensive online program includes:

  • 6 weeks of online teaching: Delivered through the Keats platform, allowing flexibility in your schedule.
  • Variety of learning materials: Videos, audio files, and written information.
  • Weekly live sessions: Wednesdays 12:00 – 13:30pm (GMT) for practicing CBT skills and discussing evidence-based applications.

Module Content:

  • Introduction to CBT and its application to diabetes
  • Basic CBT skills and five-area formulation for understanding diabetes distress
  • CBT for diabetes-specific problems:
  • Fear of hypoglycemia
  • Fear of insulin-induced weight gain

Module Structure:

  • 6 online 90-minute webinars on Wednesdays from January 17th, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM GMT.
  • Practice CBT skills through guided discovery.

Assessment:

  • Two assessments: Both 50% of the overall grade.
  • Multiple choice exam: Online, 7th November at 3:15 PM, 1 hour duration, 40 questions covering key knowledge.
  • 1000-word assignment: Letter to a patient with a brief formulation and treatment plan.
  • Deadline provided by the course lead.
