Program Overview
The Global Political Economy MA program at King's explores the interactions of political, economic, and social forces in a global context. It equips students with advanced understanding of the major interests, institutions, and ideas that shape the global political economy, and develops critical analytical skills to make sense of contemporary transformations. Overview:
This program explores the interactions of political, economic, and social forces in a global context and how they transform our world. It examines the roles of individual states, international organizations, transnational social movements, and the consequences of these forces on economic, financial, environmental, and social issues.
Objectives:

Description:
The program is designed to be interdisciplinary and to provide students with a deep understanding of the complex dynamics of the global political economy. It will explore the following topics:
- Theories and approaches to understanding the global political economy
- Key issues and challenges in the global political economy
- The role of international organizations and institutions
- The impact of globalization on different countries and regions
- The relationship between political economy and social movements

- Research Design and Methods (15 credits)
- Decolonising Global Political Economy (15 credits)
- Political Economy of International Migration (30 credits)
- Dissertation (60 credits) It will equip students with key analytical tools to make sense of contemporary transformations.
Issues in Global Political Economy:
This module focuses on globalization as a material process that has fundamentally reshaped the international political economy. It examines the consequences of globalization on finance, production, and global challenges such as climate change, migration, and poverty.
Research Design and Methods:
This module provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct independent research.
Decolonising Global Political Economy:
This module critically examines the historical and contemporary power dynamics that have shaped the global political economy. It explores alternative perspectives and approaches to understanding development and global inequality.
Political Economy of International Migration:
This module examines the relationships between international migration, global political economy, and development. It explores the causes and consequences of migration, as well as the various policies and responses to migration.
Dissertation:
The dissertation is a substantial piece of independent research that allows students to explore a specific topic in depth.
Assessment:
Modules will be assessed through a variety of methods, including:
