Program Overview
This 2-year certificate program, starting in September 2023, equips in-service high school teachers without a mathematics endorsement with the knowledge and skills to teach mathematics effectively. The program emphasizes strong mathematical skills, teaching strategies, and culturally responsive practices. Upon completion, teachers earn a second teachable in mathematics and are eligible to apply for teaching positions in Nova Scotia secondary schools.

Cohort Start Date:
September 2023 This program aims to equip in-service high school teachers lacking a mathematics endorsement with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach mathematics effectively. By successfully completing the program, teachers will earn their second teachable in mathematics. The program curriculum has been thoughtfully designed in collaboration with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education and the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
- Prepare teachers for successful completion of the Nova Scotia Teacher Certification exam, leading to the second teachable in mathematics.
- Integrate culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive practices to create welcoming and effective classroom environments.
Outline:
The program comprises 30 credits divided into two sections: education courses (12 credits) and sample mathematics courses (18 credits).
