Program Overview


This joint program allows students to combine a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from PLTS with a Common MA from the Graduate Theological Union (GTU). Students choose a GTU MA concentration and select MDiv courses applicable to their chosen pathway. Upon completing the MDiv, students transfer 24 credits to their GTU MA degree and complete the Common MA in one additional year.

Joint MDiv / MA (PLTS and GTU)

This program allows PLTS seminarians to combine their MDiv (Master of Divinity) degree with a Common MA offered by the Graduate Theological Union (GTU).


Objectives:

This program equips students with:

  • An in-depth understanding of their chosen theological subject.
  • The knowledge and skills for teaching ministry or further graduate studies.
  • Choose a GTU MA concentration.
  • Select MDiv courses applicable to chosen MA pathway.
  • Upon completing the MDiv, students then:
  • Transfer 24 credits to their GTU MA degree.
  • Complete the Common MA in 1 additional year.
  • Explore a theological subject in depth prior to taking a call.
  • Prepare for a teaching ministry.

Concentration Opportunities:

PLTS faculty offer the following GTU Common MA concentrations:

  • Sacred Texts and their Interpretation (Hebrew Bible/OT; New Testament)
  • Historical and Cultural Studies of Religion (Christian Spirituality; History of Christianity)
  • Theology and Ethics (Ethics; Christian Theology)

Admission Process:

Separate applications required to both PLTS (MDiv) and GTU (Common MA). Admission to one program does not ensure admission to the other.
