Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


Domestic Students (Canadian and Permanent Residents)


Grade 10

Completion of Grade 10 is the minimum academic requirement for admission to the Carpentry program.


English Language Requirement

A minimum English competency level is required for admission. This can be demonstrated through:

  • Saskatchewan Grade 12 English: Completion of Saskatchewan Grade 12 English with a minimum grade of 60% (C).
  • Equivalent: Completion of an equivalent English course from another province or territory with a minimum passing grade, as determined by Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
  • English Language Proficiency Test: Applicants who have not completed a Canadian high school diploma, or whose first language is not English, can demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following tests:
  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL):
  • Minimum score of 60.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Minimum score of 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Minimum score of 80 on the internet-based test (iBT) with a minimum of 20 in each section.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): Minimum score of 59 with a minimum of 59 in each communicative skill.

Alternative Admission for Domestic Students


Applicants who do not meet the standard academic requirements may be considered for admission through alternative admission.

This option requires applicants to demonstrate the potential for success in the program through an assessment. The assessment may involve a combination of:

  • High School Equivalency Test: Completion of an approved high school equivalency test, such as the GED or the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT).
  • Mature Student Status: Applicants 19 years of age or older with relevant work experience may be considered for mature student status.
  • Previous Post-Secondary Education: Applicants with previous post-secondary education, even if it doesn't meet the program's specific entry requirements, may be considered for advanced standing.
  • Portfolio or Interview: Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio of their work or participate in an interview to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
