Program Overview
The Certificate in Archaeological Monitoring is an 18-credit program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in archaeological fieldwork, cultural resource management, and museum studies. The program includes courses in archaeology, geomatics, and Indigenous studies. Graduates will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including archaeological sites, museums, and government agencies.

The Certificate in Archaeological Monitoring consists of 18 credits, distributed across six courses:
- ANTH 2026 Archaeology I (3 credits): Introduces the history, theory, and methods of archaeology.
- ANTH 2027 Archaeology II (3 credits): Focuses on archaeological research design, fieldwork, and analysis.
- ANTH 3037 Archaeological Cataloguing and Reporting (3 credits): Trains students in the proper methods for recording and reporting archaeological data.
- GEOG 2017 Introduction to Geomatics (3 credits): Provides an overview of geographic information systems (GIS) and their application in archaeological research.
- INDG 2006 Indigenous Places – Changing Landscapes (3 credits): Explores the history and significance of Indigenous places in Canada, and the impact of colonization on these landscapes.
- INDG 2007 Land-as-Home & Indigenous Well-being (3 credits): Examines the relationship between Indigenous peoples and their land, with a focus on the importance of land for Indigenous well-being.
Careers:
Graduates of the Certificate in Archaeological Monitoring will be prepared for careers in archaeological fieldwork, cultural resource management, and museum studies. The Certificate in Archaeological Monitoring will be awarded at the time of graduation.
