Degree Overview:
This one-year, 34-week program is designed for individuals aiming for a career in fashion by developing the technical skills and knowledge required to work in the fashion design industry. The program emphasizes both the local and global aspects of the fashion industry and incorporates "real life" opportunities through collaborations with projects from the community and the industry. Successful completion of the diploma opens up the option of continuing studies in the second year of the Bachelor of Creative Practice at IDEAschool.

Students enrolled in the NZ Diploma in Fashion (Level 5) acquire proficiency in:
- Digital documentation: creating records of research and progress using digital tools.
- Fashion concept design and illustration: developing sketching and visualization skills specific to the fashion realm.
- Pattern block and toile manipulation: acquiring expertise in constructing and modifying garment templates.

- Mini collection development: conceptualizing, producing, and presenting a small clothing collection in a professional catwalk show.

Entry Requirements:
The NZ Diploma in Fashion (Level 5) program at EIT has the following entry requirements:
Academic Requirements:
- University Entrance: Applicants must have achieved University Entrance as defined by the NZQA.
- Evidence of Capability: Applicants who do not have University Entrance but can demonstrate the capability to undertake and complete the program may be considered.
- Mature Applicants: Applicants over 20 years of age who can demonstrate the capability to complete the program may be considered at the discretion of EIT.
Language Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency: All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency before being accepted into the program.
International Applicants:
- Academic Requirements: Applicants under 20 years old must have completed a Level 3 qualification in a related field or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
- English Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0.
Entry with Credit:
- Applicants with relevant prior learning or experience may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) and cross-credit.

- New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 4 (any endorsement)
- IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0
- PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36

- Successful study of a program where English was the language of instruction (conditions apply)
