The MRes Arts program at Arts University Bournemouth equips makers, designers, and thinkers with advanced research skills in the arts, design, and creative industries. Objectives:

Equip makers, designers, and thinkers with the tools to conduct independent, critical, and creative research within and across disciplines at Arts University Bournemouth.
Prepare graduates for doctoral study or research-led projects in the creative and cultural industries.
Develop research skills in the areas of theory, methods, and practices of research.
Cultivate a critical appreciation of maker cultures to advance innovative research practices in the arts.

Program Description:

This research-based master's degree allows individuals from various creative and academic backgrounds to:

Engage in a socially and ethically responsible research practice where making occupies a central role.
Develop new ways of looking, reading, and understanding our interaction with things, the environment, and each other.
Gain mastery in research theories, methods, and practices through independent study and a program of lectures, seminars, and workshops.
Conduct an Independent Research Project culminating in a 15,000-20,000 word thesis that integrates practical work, critical reflection, and contextualization.

Outline

Program Structure:

Full-time or part-time study starting in September.
Three units of study:
Research Practices in the Arts (60 credits): Introduction to practical and theoretical research approaches.
Independent Research Project 1 (60 credits): Independent exploration of a research question through experimentation, case study, or pilot study.
Independent Research Project 2 (60 credits): Synthesis of research findings and presentation of the investigation.
