Objectives:

• Equip makers, designers, and thinkers with the tools to conduct independent, critical, and creative research within and across disciplines at Arts University Bournemouth.

Program Description:

This research-based master's degree allows individuals from various creative and academic backgrounds to:

• Engage in a socially and ethically responsible research practice where making occupies a central role.
• Develop new ways of looking, reading, and understanding our interaction with things, the environment, and each other.
• Gain mastery in research theories, methods, and practices through independent study and a program of lectures, seminars, and workshops.
• Conduct an Independent Research Project culminating in a 15,000-20,000 word thesis that integrates practical work, critical reflection, and contextualization.

• Three units of study:
• Research Practices in the Arts (60 credits): Introduction to practical and theoretical research approaches.
• Independent Research Project 1 (60 credits): Independent exploration of a research question through experimentation, case study, or pilot study.
• Independent Research Project 2 (60 credits): Synthesis of research findings and presentation of the investigation.
