The MA Digital Fashion Innovation program comprises two units, each divided into sub-projects.


Unit 1: Strategies for practice

  • This unit consists of various projects revisiting the fundamentals of digital fashion.
  • Introduces students to the digital and practical fashion tools required for the course.
  • Encourages students to analyze and critically evaluate how their practice is manifested in their work.
  • Provides opportunities to engage in shared sessions with other postgraduate students within the "postgraduate network."
  • Offers subject specialist sessions specifically tailored to individual MA courses.
  • Assists students in identifying relevant theories and research methods suitable for their focus area.
  • Guides students in generating new knowledge and understanding to inform and establish their Masters Project proposal.

Unit 2: Master's Project

  • Divided into two parts:
  • Exploration:
  • Requires students to formalize their intentions in a Study Plan and explore contextual issues relevant to their study focus through creative design practice.
  • Implementation: Students carry through their plan of action identified in their proposal and establish ways of presenting and disseminating the outcomes of their creative design project, communicating their outcome to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Part-time pathway


Teaching:

  • The program utilizes industry-standard software including CLO3D, Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, and Browzwear.
  • Resources include five fashion design studios, three digital studios, workshop resources, 3D printing, industrial sewing, laser cutters, leather machinery, and dye room facilities.
  • Access to a digital print hub with Mimaki, sublimation, and UV printing capabilities.
  • Students can utilize the VR Suite, digital loom, and body scanner.

Other:

  • The program emphasizes critical thinking and innovation in creative design practice.
  • Encourages students to develop exploration and discovery through a focused and critical approach to reflective inquiry and future design practice.
  • Aims to equip designers with the skills to apply a systematic process of questioning existing ideas and use innovative design methods to analyze and comprehend problems and behaviors.
  • Guides students to generate alternative, creative, and experimental design solutions.
  • Addresses fashion industry issues such as resource abuse, waste disposal, and chemical pollution.
  • Encourages a conscious and considered approach to designing and realizing fashion products.
  • The program can be studied full- or part-time from September or full-time from January.
  • Students are encouraged to take intellectual and creative risks while exploring their chosen practices and positioning them within their chosen external, creative, economic, and cultural environment.
