Degree Overview:
This five-day short course provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to the art of marbling and decorative painting techniques. It combines practical sessions with theoretical knowledge, enabling participants to develop a versatile toolkit applicable to various creative fields.
Outline:
- Paper Marbling:
- Introduction to the mesmerising process of creating patterns on paper using liquid paint on thickened water.
- Exploration of various techniques, including Italian Vein, Swirls, Nonpareil, Bouquet, Spanish Wave, and Double Marble.
- Creation of marbled papers for upcycling projects.
- Trompe-l’oeil:
- Mastering illusionistic painting techniques to mimic natural materials like marble and stone on wooden surfaces.
Teaching:
The course is led by Eloise Dethier-Eaton, a multidisciplinary artist and Decorative Surfaces Fellow at the City & Guilds of London Art School. The teaching approach is process-based, allowing participants to experiment and explore the techniques under the guidance of an expert.
