Commercial Law LLB (Hons)

Degree Overview

Objective:

  • To equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret and examine the legal aspects of commercial transactions, as well as understand the practical reality of conducting commercial activity.
  • To provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework supporting businesses and enabling economic growth.
  • To develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills through exploring the law's response to changing business priorities and the development of ethically and socially responsible business behavior.

Description:

This program delves into the legal mechanisms developed to ensure free-flowing trade and the protection of commercial interests. It also examines how commercial law has evolved to keep pace with changing business practices while reinforcing ethically and socially responsible commercial behaviors.

  • Students will gain knowledge of legal doctrines, concepts, principles, rules, and values in various legal areas.
  • They will develop an appreciation of the context and the dynamic nature of law, its uncertainty, and the need for reform.
  • They will learn to apply legal knowledge and skills to both the theory and practice of law, particularly in a commercial setting.
  • Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical settings through the Business Law and Enterprise Clinic, Employment Law Clinic, or Advocacy Clinic at the Coventry Law Centre (availability subject to selection and supervision by trained legal professionals).
  • They can also engage with students at other international universities and industry experts to develop their intercultural competencies and digital skills through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects.

  • They will also begin to develop their practical legal skills through various modules, providing them with an insight into the realities of legal practice.

  • Opportunities and arrangements for placements may vary per course and student.

Year Three

  • This year focuses on bringing students to the level required to enter the professional world by developing their commercial law skills further.
