Program Overview
This unique program equips educators with best practices for teaching students with literacy difficulties, including dyslexia. Accredited by the British Dyslexia Association, graduates are eligible for associate membership and become Assessment Practising Certificate holders. The program combines online and face-to-face sessions, leading to careers in dyslexia assessment, specialist teaching, and disability support.

Degree Overview:
This program, the only one of its kind in Ireland, equips you with best-practice teaching strategies for students with literacy difficulties. You'll delve into the conceptualization of dyslexia, understand how to assess individuals, and gain expertise in curriculum-based interventions and evidence-based practice. The program is accredited by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA), making you eligible for internationally-recognized associate membership (AMBDA) upon completion, alongside becoming an Assessment Practising Certificate holder. As a graduate, you'll be sought-after for roles in dyslexia assessment, specialist teaching, and disability support positions at third-level institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Outline:
Year 1:
- Theories and models of language and literacy development
- Reflecting on personal practice
- Evaluating programs and methods for literacy development across the curriculum
- Assessing literacy in reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics
- Creating personalized support and intervention programs
Year 2:
- Conducting thorough dyslexia assessments using standardized tests
- Developing professional expertise in assessing students and writing professional reports with intervention recommendations
- Completing a Professional Practice Portfolio based on detailed assessments, analysis, and learner support
- Engaging in action research to hone expertise and leadership in SpLD/Dyslexia in your chosen context
Assessment:
- Continuous assessment through coursework, assignments, and participation
- Final portfolio (year 2) demonstrating your professional competence and effectiveness

Teaching:
- Blend of online and face-to-face sessions
- Weekly online sessions (1-2 hours)
