- If your research proposal is assessed as viable by the admissions team, but we feel your undergraduate degree does not demonstrate the potential to successfully complete a doctorate, you may be advised to instead apply for an M A by Research degree and, on successful completion of this, transfer to the Ph D. Language Proficiency Requirements:
- The British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test - with an overall score of 7.0 - minimum score of 5.5 in each area.
- The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) (minimum score - overall 67 - with no individual area below 59) .
- The LanguageCert International ESOL - Level 12 English for Higher Education test: with an overall score of 80.
English Language Entry Requirement For full-time international students (including those from the EU/EEA) there are several options for meeting the English Language requirement for most taught postgraduate programmes: (If an MA by Research programme is offered in your subject, a different selection or requirement might be in place; please refer to your specific degree for more details, which can be confirmed upon contacting us via our Admissions Pages) . You could: Pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by UKVI. If you have already taken and passed either an IELTS Academic, Trinity ISE II or PTE Academic within the past two years of your course start date you may meet English language entry requirements as long as these results satisfy your programme requirements as stated above.
- Complete a University of Gloucestershire English Language Assessment at B2 (Upper Intermediate)/ C1 (Advanced): Students enrolled within these programmes in order to satisfy their visa requirements or those attending who have recently attended our International Foundation Programme at B2 or C1 level - are exempt from this assessment requirement Complete a pre-sessional English language programme at the University of Gloucestershire: Successful completion of one of the following courses would also meet your English Language requirements: Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes: 4 weeks/ 6 weeks / 10 weeks A student enrolled upon one of the programmes detailed above and has subsequently attended their SELT with no more than five months before their intended enrolment month; the test score, if deemed adequate at the necessary level for their preferred programme, should allow them to commence their studies without the need to re-attend a language programme.
