Degree Overview:


This level 7, 8-month, part-time module

equips healthcare professionals with the skills to manage complex pediatric cases. The program focuses on advanced communication, clinical assessment, examination, and clinical decision-making and management in children's care. You'll learn to critically analyze, synthesize, and review care decisions while considering medico-legal, ethical, moral, and safeguarding principles. The curriculum aligns with national requirements for advanced practice and is developed in collaboration with local NHS trusts and healthcare providers.


Outline:

  • Delivered fully face-to-face at City Campus via interactive lectures, simulations, and problem-based learning.
  • 90 hours of contact time with additional self-directed study.

  • 9:00-11:00: Epidemiology of common and rare conditions, diagnostic criteria, and assessment tools.
  • 11:30-13:30: Assessment, treatment, and management planning theory.
  • 14:00-16:00: Clinical assessment theory and practice via simulated patient interactions.

  • analyze a complex pediatric case, review care decisions and interventions, identify key decision-making components, discuss ethical and legal aspects, and justify clinical actions taken in a written report.
  • OSCE: demonstrate consultation, clinical history, advanced physical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and management skills in a 25-minute single-station OSCE.

Entry Requirements:


Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a registered healthcare professional, registered with the NMC/HCPC.
  • Provide evidence of a level 6 study.
  • Work within a clinical role where the assessment and examination of children and young people is required.

Additional requirements:

  • A clinical supervisor in practice who is able to support development of the advanced clinical management of children and young people.
