Program Overview

This 5-credit program provides comprehensive training in person-centered care, covering topics such as care plans, hygiene, mobility assistance, and nutrition. Offered in both in-person and online formats, the program includes 30 hours of lecture and 48 hours of lab, preparing students for a career as a Health Care Aide.

• Using individual care plans to support clients' independence and meet their care needs
• Skills and knowledge required to help clients with daily grooming and hygiene
• How to assist clients to walk and use mobility aids and wheelchairs safely
• Methods for carrying out client lifts and transfers, with a focus on client safety and comfort
• Standards for meeting client nutritional needs
• Strict guidelines in safe food handling as set out in the Alberta Long-Term Care Accommodation Standards
