About Program

Program Overview

This course explores diversity and its impact on Canada's criminal justice system. It examines race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, (dis)ability, and religion, as well as the diversity of Indigenous peoples. Students will consider the social, political, and legal contexts of diversity theories and their relevance to justice studies, and apply this knowledge to practical scenarios within the justice profession.

Program Outline

Outline:

  • Content: This course introduces students to the major concepts and themes that emerge in a critical examination of diversity and Canada's settler-colonial criminal justice system.
  • As well as engaging in discussions about race and ethnicity, students will consider other aspects of intersectional diversity such as gender, sexual orientation, age, (dis)ability, and religion. This course will also foreground the diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada. In addition, students will examine the social, political, and legal contextualization of theories of diversity and their relevance to justice studies.
