Program Overview
The Master of Interior Design (MID) program at the University of Manitoba prepares students for a career in interior design, with a focus on human-centered design solutions, technical foundations, and international perspectives. Students engage in design studios and support courses, participate in work experience or co-op programs, and benefit from access to advanced facilities and collaborations with other design disciplines. Objectives
• Produce human-centered and context-based design solutions that respond to the needs of contemporary life. • Develop the methods, processes, technical and theoretical foundations of interior design. • Provide opportunities for international and cross-cultural study through exchange programs and design studios. • Involve students in either a work experience or co-op program.
Outline:
The course of studies consists of the design studio and support courses that develop the methods, processes, technical and theoretical foundations of interior design. There are opportunities for international and cross-cultural study through exchange programs and design studios. Students are required to participate in either a work experience or co-op program.
Teaching:
Students put knowledge into practice throughout the Master of Interior Design (MID) program through design studios, creating opportunities for extending collaborative perspectives and theoretical understanding. Studios are augmented by a growing array of making and thinking facilities: a FABLab, CADLab, Workshop, Architecture/Fine Arts Library, and Centre for Architectural Structures and Technology (C.A.S.T.). Architecture students benefit from interactions with colleagues in our Faculty’s kindred disciplines (Architecture, Environmental Design, Landscape Architecture and City Planning) and across the University.
Careers:
The interior design professional program at the University of Manitoba is a recognized accredited program that meets the standards of the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). In addition, the First-Professional Masters of Interior Design degree meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Examination.
