Overview:

  • The Bachelor of Environmental Design with Honours (D4A) is a one-year course offered on a full-time or part-time basis by the College of Sciences and Engineering through Architecture & Design.
  • It is undertaken on campus in Inveresk, Launceston.

Objectives:

  • The course is designed to provide research training and to develop more specialized knowledge in selected areas of design which are especially relevant to today's environmental concerns and incorporated in the programs of the School.

KDA430 Advanced Design Studio A

  • Students develop a line of speculative, self-directed research in contemporary design, forming the basis of their Honours thesis.
  • They identify a research theme, specify research questions, and develop preliminary design work for their thesis.

KDA431 Advanced Design Studio B

  • Students continue to develop their findings and investigations related to their individual speculations in KDA430 Advanced Design Studio A.
  • The major works completed in this unit will be supported by the thesis developed in KDA478 Dissertation.

KDA477 Dissertation A (BEnvDes(Hons))

  • This unit is a program of supervised individual research, designed to allow students to explore in depth an area of environmental design of particular interest to them.
  • It is undertaken throughout the year and culminates in the submission of a major dissertation.

KDA478 Dissertation B (BEnvDes(Hons))

  • Continuation of KDA477 Dissertation A (BEnvDes(Hons)).

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


For Domestic students

  • Qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Design (BEnvDes) in this University or qualified for admission to a degree in another design course in a tertiary institution approved by the College of Sciences and Engineering;
  • Achieved an Average Weighted Mark of at least 60% in the units of the final year of the BEnvDes course or an equivalent design course in another tertiary institution approved by the College.

For International students

  • Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree.
  • Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.
  • Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.
  • Before beginning their course of study for the degree of BEnvDes(Hons) students shall have:
  • Qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Design (BEnvDes) in this University or qualified for admission to a degree in another design course in a tertiary institution approved by the College of Sciences and Engineering;
