Program Overview
This hybrid filmmaking program, led by Fernando Scarpa, teaches students the techniques and requirements for directing a film. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, students learn about budgeting, casting, collaboration, camera blocking, visual composition, sound, and editing. By mid-class, students apply their knowledge by shooting and editing their own short film, which is reviewed and critiqued in class.

- The program consists of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises.
- Through the course, students will learn techniques for translating their script into moving images, as well as the creative and physical requirements for directing a film.
- Topics include budgeting and production scheduling, casting actors and eliciting the best performance, collaborating with the crew, camera blocking, creating the shot list, visual composition, sound, and editing.
- By mid-class, students will put in practice all the producing and directorial basics they have learned throughout the program as they shoot and edit their film with guidance from the instructor.
- Dailies are reviewed and critiqued in class.
- Running time with credits must not exceed 15 minutes.
