With a strong focus on practical, hands-on teaching, you'll learn state-of-the-art drawing studios and work on real industry projects. You'll be taught by academics who have a strong footing in the industry and have the opportunity to network and connect with industry professionals throughout your degree. What's more, you'll get the chance to undertake an industry placement, allowing you to put your skills into practice and make valuable industry contacts before you graduate. In your final year you will complete an independent research project under the supervision of an academic staff member. The Honours program is a critical element for students seeking a direct pathway into research, academia and employment in many consulting and government organisations who prioritise the employment of honours graduates.

The Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours) is offered full-time on-campus at the Nathan and Gold Coast campuses.


Tuition Fees and Payment Information:

An International student is a person who is not Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, a Pacific Engagement visa holder or the holder of a permanent resident/humanitarian visa. This program is available to International students for study in Australia at Griffith University. International students applying to study on-campus in Australia will require a student visa or another type of visa which does not preclude them from studying in Australia. You can apply for admission online OR via a Griffith University registered agent. For the award of Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours) [BUrbanPlan(Hons)], you must successfully complete 320 credit points, made up of the core courses AND 60 credit points for a Major (including 30 credit points for dissertation on a topic from your major area); OR if you elect not to complete a major, you will complete 30 credit points for dissertation and 30 credit points of listed electives. 10 credit points of listed Architecture electives; 10 credit points of free-choice electives. For Domestic and those International students required to complete the English Language Enhancement course For the award of Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours) [BUrbanPlan(Hons)], you must successfully complete 320 credit points, made up of the core courses AND 10 credit points for the English Language Enhancement course (5903LHS); AND 60 credit points for a Major (including 30 credit points for dissertation on a topic from your major area); OR if you elect not to complete a major, you will complete 30 credit points for dissertation and 30 credit points of listed electives. 10 credit points of listed Architecture electives. Other program requirements You must successfully complete: no more than 100 credit points of Level 1 courses (the first digit of a course code denotes the level); at least 60 credit points of Level 3 courses or higher. Honours Classification of Honours This degree with Honours may be awarded in the following classes: Class I Honours Class IIA Honours Class IIB Honours Class III Honours The class of Honours to be awarded to each student in this degree will be determined on the basis of the GPA achieved for the 80 credit points of nominated courses and a minimum percentage for the Dissertation as outlined in the Dissertation Management Procedure.The 80 credit points of nominated courses are as follows: 3097ENV Strategic Planning Studio (20CP) 4017ENV Planning Practicum 20 (20CP) 4029ENV Project Proposal for Honours (10CP) 4030ENV_P1 Honours Dissertation (10CP) 4030ENV_P2 Honours Dissertation (10CP) 4030ENV_P3 Honours Dissertation (10CP) If you do not achieve the standard necessary to be awarded Class III Honours, you will be required to transfer to the AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Urban Studies (1659) to be awarded the degree without Honours. Australian Qualifications Framework The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training. This qualification is accredited as an AQF Level 8 - Bachelor Honours Degree. English Language Enhancement All undergraduate International students are required to complete an English Language Enhancement Course unless specific criteria are met as specified in Section 5.0 Qualifications Procedure. The following course must be completed in the first trimester of study: 5903LHS Language and Communication for Sciences Advice regarding the requirement to complete the English Language Enhancement Course is available via the myGriffith portal (in the To Do List). Students whose first language is English are not permitted to undertake this course.
