The Welding and Fabrication Technician program at Fanshawe College is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program that combines theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of welding and fabrication. The program is divided into four academic levels, each consisting of a combination of theoretical and practical courses. Students will also complete two paid co-op work experiences as part of the program.

  • MATH-1221 Math for Welding2: This course focuses on technical mathematics, measurement and unit conversion, and geometry with an emphasis on welding applications.
  • SFTY-1085 Industrial Safety & Rigging3: This course teaches students how to work safely in a potentially dangerous environment, with a focus on identifying hazardous conditions and preventing workplace accidents.
  • DRAF-1069 Blueprint Reading-Intro2: This course provides students with the knowledge to interpret a variety of drawings and schematics typically found in a welding and fabricating environment.
  • WELD-1069 Welding Theory 13: This course introduces students to core theoretical models shared across multiple welding processes, including weld joint configuration, electrical terminology, and physics related to welding projects.
  • WELD-1070 Practical Welding Lab 13: This course introduces students to working in a welding environment and develops their skills in producing fillet and groove welds in the flat and horizontal positions using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) processes.
  • WRIT-1039 Reason & Writing 1-Technology3: This course introduces students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the postsecondary level.
  • WELD-1072 Virtual Welding 11: This course introduces students to the latest welding technology using industry-leading Lincoln Vertex 360 advanced welding simulators with virtual reality technology.

  • WELD-2071 Practical Welding Lab 23: This course builds on the skills developed in Practical Welding Lab 1 and introduces students to more advanced welding techniques, including welding in the vertical and overhead positions.
  • WELD-2073 Welding Theory 23: This course continues to explore the theoretical principles of welding, with a focus on advanced welding processes and techniques.
  • WELD-2075 Welding Metallurgy3: This course provides students with a basic understanding of the metallurgy of welding, including the properties of different metals and the effects of welding on these properties.
