General Science (B.A.)

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in General Science offers a comprehensive foundation in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics. Students can choose between a General Concentration, which allows for specialization in a specific area, or a Secondary Education Concentration, which prepares them for teaching general science in grades 7-12. The program provides a strong scientific background and flexibility to tailor the degree to individual career aspirations.

• The Bachelor of Arts in General Science provides an extensive background across all four fundamental science disciplines: biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics.
• Students have the flexibility to select between two concentrations, namely General Science and Secondary Education, to align with their career aspirations.

• General Concentration:
Focuses on establishing a comprehensive understanding of science while accommodating courses that explore the student's specific interests. This concentration is often paired with a major in a related field.
• Secondary Education Concentration:
Parallels the General concentration but incorporates seven additional education courses. Graduates of this concentration are eligible for Pennsylvania teacher certification in general science for grades 7-12 upon meeting the required grade point average and qualifying on the teacher examination. Typically, teachers with this certification teach general science, life science, physical science, or earth science in grades 7-9.
