- The Costume Department (Structure and Positions): An introduction to the various positions within a costume department, their responsibilities, and how they collaborate with other departments on set.
- Costume History: Explores research methods for historical costumes, the historical and social relevance of costume, and the evolution of form, line, and construction throughout history.
- Dyeing, Breakdown/Ageing, and Textile Arts: Covers practical applications of dyeing, fabric breakdown/ageing, and textile arts in film and television. Students learn the challenges of working with costumes on set, the role of dyeing and breakdown in character development, and techniques for ageing and breakdown to achieve special effects.
- Research and Production: Focuses on research methods for contemporary costumes, identifying fashion trends, basic color theory, historical and social relevance of color, and developing a color palette. Students also explore considerations of fabric in costume, sourcing fabrics, and the roles of set supervisor, truck costumer, and background costumers.
- Film Specific On Set Terminology: Introduces film-specific terminology and set procedures.
- Script Breakdown: Teaches students how to read a film script, understand abbreviations and terminology, and break down a script for technical and administrative requirements. Students learn how to generate relevant lists and documents and analyze and break down a character to support the script and the director's vision.
