Entry Requirements:

The Bachelor of Technology Construction Management (BTech CM) program is a degree completion program. The program provides years 3 and 4 of a four-year bachelor’s degree. The entrance options are unique and are intended to provide options for individuals working in the construction industry who are interested in expanding their career opportunities. The BTech CM program is available through both Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) or in an expedited Planned Program, which is a combination of a full-time schedule blended with some part-time courses. Application processing Planned Program (full-time): This program is open to applications beginning October 1st (or next business day). Flexible Learning (part-time): Applications are accepted throughout the year. Entrance requirements Note: Effective for the September 2025 intake, the entry options will be revised to the following: Option A: construction-related diploma or degree Post-secondary education: a construction-related diploma or degree (e.g., Architecture, Engineering, Architecture & Building Technology) from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 67% Work experience: minimum one year of experience working in the construction industry Option B: unrelated diploma or degree Post-secondary education: an unrelated diploma or degree in any discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 67% Bridging courses: completion of the Construction Operations Associate Certificate program at BCIT with a minimum GPA of 67% Work experience: minimum one year of experience working in the construction industry Option C: unrelated diploma or degree and industry experience Post-secondary education: an unrelated diploma or degree in any discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 67% Work experience: minimum eight years of North American construction management experience (i.e., site superintendent, project managers, and other mid- to senior-level management roles)Please contact the BTech CM department for more information. Option D: Red Seal certification in an approved trade Red Seal certification: a Certificate of Qualification with an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement in a related and approved trade: Cabinetmaker, carpenter, electrician, industrial mechanic (millwright), metal fabricator, plumber, refrigeration & air conditioning mechanic, and welder (level A) Math: one of the following: Pre-Calculus 11 (60%) or Foundations of Math 11 (60%) or Workplace Math 11 (60%) or BLDT 1011: Applied Construction Math (60%) or Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses Bridging courses: completion of the Associate Certificate Construction Operations with a minimum GPA of 67% Work experience: minimum one year of experience working in the construction industry in addition to apprenticeship hours This program has a two-step admission process. Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first qualified basis as long as space remains.Step 1: Pre-entry assessmentApplicants must have a pre-entry assessment meeting with the program head to identify admission requirements. It is solely the student's responsibility to acquire the necessary relevant work experience. Applicants must meet one of the following options A, B, C or D:Option A Post-secondary education in architecture or a related engineering discipline: successful completion of one of the following from a recognized institution: Diploma Bachelor’s degree (a master’s degree alone is not sufficient for admission) Option B Post-secondary education: successful completion one of the following from a recognized institution: Minimum of the first two years of a university program in any discipline.This must consist of a minimum of 60 post-secondary credits comprised of 30 credits at the 100 level and 30 credits at the 200 level. Your apprenticeship training must have consisted of a minimum of 20 weeks of technical training over a four-year period, with a minimum of 30 hours of training per week. SkilledTradesBC maintains industry training program profiles for various trades. At present, the following trades are accepted for admission: sheet metal worker, steamfitter/pipefitter, millwright (industrial mechanic), carpenter, electrician, plumber, welder level A, sprinkler system installer, boilermaker, refrigeration mechanic, and metal fabricator (fitter). Other trades may also be accepted; please contact the program head to make an appointment. Math: one of the following: Pre-Calculus 11 (60%) or Foundations of Math 11 (60%) or Workplace Math 11 (60%) or Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses Successful completion of the Associate Certificate in Construction Operations. Students needing to complete the associate certificate for their entrance requirements can register directly with that program and begin at their convenience. Important notice regarding entry options C and D The Bridging Courses have been revised and an Associate Certificate in Construction Operations is the current entrance requirement, effective January 2021. All students currently registered in the bridging courses will have the option to: Complete the bridging courses as agreed to, and documented, with the Program Head in the pre-entry assessment process, or Complete the associate certificate All students not yet registered in one of the bridging courses will be expected to provide the Associate Certificate in Construction Operations in order to meet the entrance requirements. Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Credential evaluation reports from other Canadian services may be considered. These reports must include course-by-course evaluations and GPA calculations. Continuation requirements Minimum of two years of relevant work experience (which includes the six months required for program entry) prior to graduation. Note: It is solely the student's responsibility to acquire the necessary relevant work experience. Recommended for success Applicants have found greater success within the program when they enter with a minimum of two years of industry experience. Students must also be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). International applicants The full-time option is available to international applicants.
