About Program

Program Overview

The Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) is a two-year program that equips students with the theoretical and practical skills for the mechanical and manufacturing industries. It covers drafting, computer-aided drafting, machining, and manufacturing processes, as well as engineering mathematics, scientific principles, and materials engineering. Graduates are qualified for roles such as technical officers, engineering assistants, supervisors, or managers in offices, laboratories, workshops, or manufacturing plants.

Program Outline

Outline:

The Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) is a two-year full-time program that provides students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in the mechanical and manufacturing industries. The program covers a range of engineering skills, including drafting, computer-aided drafting, and use of hand and power tools, machining and manufacturing processes. Students will also learn skills in basic machining operations and fabrication tasks, as well as how to select, set up, and use a range of test equipment. They will also be introduced to engineering mathematics, scientific principles, and materials engineering. Specialist areas include:

  • 3D computer-aided drafting and solid modeling
  • advanced statics and dynamics
  • design of machinery
  • metrology
  • project and quality management
  • strength of materials
  • thermodynamics and fluid mechanics

Teaching:

The program is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and laboratory sessions. Students will also complete a simulated industry-based project as part of the program. The program is led by an experienced team of industry professionals and academics, who are committed to providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workplace.

Careers:

Upon graduation, students will be qualified to work as technical officers, engineering assistants, supervisors, or managers. They may work in offices, technical laboratories, workshops, or manufacturing plants. Mechanical and manufacturing paraprofessional engineers assist professional engineers in mechanical design, supervise and manage manufacturing and assembly plants, construct, operate, and maintain machines, and manufacture and maintain mechanical equipment, mechanical installations, and mechanical facilities. Jobs and Skills Australia projects that work opportunities for industrial, mechanical, and production engineers are set to increase by 13.1% to 2028.
