Program Overview
The Principles of Precision Machining certificate program equips students with entry-level manufacturing and machining skills through hands-on experience with tools, machinery, and CNC programming. The program includes courses in machine tools, machining operations, CNC programming, technical drawing, and problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers as machinists, CNC programmers, or manufacturing engineers in the manufacturing industry.

The Principles of Precision Machining certificate program provides students with entry-level manufacturing skills and machining skills. Through hands-on experience, students will gain an understanding of hand tools, shop safety procedures, blueprints, machinery, and computer numerical control (CNC). The program is designed to prepare students for further education and careers in the manufacturing industry.
- MANU 101 - Orientation to Manufacturing (2 credits) provides an overview of the manufacturing industry, including safety procedures, quality control, and production planning.
- MANU 130 - Machine Tools/Precision Measurement (6 credits) introduces students to the use of machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders. Students will also learn how to use precision measuring tools and gauges.
- MANU 140 - Machining Operations and Procedures (6 credits) covers the basic operations of machining, including turning, milling, drilling, and grinding. Students will also learn how to set up and operate CNC machines.
- MANU 150 - Intro to Computer Numerical Control (6 credits) introduces students to the principles of CNC programming. Students will learn how to create and edit CNC programs, and how to operate CNC machines.
- MANU 160 - Advanced Computer Numerical Control (6 credits) covers advanced topics in CNC programming, including parametric programming and toolpath generation. Students will also learn how to troubleshoot CNC programs and machines.
- TEC-D 107 - Technical Drawing (4 credits) introduces students to the principles of technical drawing. Students will learn how to create and interpret engineering drawings.
- TEC-D 145 - Applied Problem Solving (5 credits) teaches students how to solve problems using critical thinking and analytical skills. Students will also learn how to use problem-solving tools and techniques.
- CO-OP 111 - Cooperative Education Seminar I (2 credits) provides students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in the manufacturing industry. Students will work with a local employer to complete a work-study project.
- CO-OP 121 - Cooperative Work Experience (1-13 credits) provides students with additional opportunities to gain practical experience in the manufacturing industry. Students will work with a local employer to complete a work-study project.
