The Cosmetology Associate in Science degree program at Skyline College prepares students for licensing as cosmetologists. Objectives:
- Complete 1000 hours in the Cosmetology Program.
- Successfully pass the California State Board Cosmetology written exam.
- Identify career and continuing educational options in the fields of Cosmetology, and plan actions towards achieving those goals and objectives.
- Apply theories, principles, and concepts to address skills learned that would apply to Cosmetology.
- Recognize the importance of and practice ethical behavior in a professional work setting, both within the work force and within the community.
- Critically consider, analyze, and research special issues in Cosmetology and their effects on society.

The Cosmetology AS degree program includes the following courses:
Required Core Courses:
- COSM 701 Cosmetology Core Concepts (6 units): Introduces students to the fundamental principles and practices of cosmetology, including sanitation, safety, communication, client consultation, skin care, and hair care.
- COSM 702 Cosmetology Hair Design Concepts (6 units): Develops students' skills in hair cutting, styling, coloring, and chemical services.
- COSM 703 Cosmetology Chemical Concepts (3 units): Covers the theory and application of chemical services, including hair coloring, perming, and relaxing.
- COSM 704 Cosmetology Intermediate Concepts (6 units): Advances students' skills in hair design, chemical services, and skin care.
- COSM 705 Cosmetology Business and Salon Experience (9 units): Prepares students for the business aspects of cosmetology, including salon management, marketing, and customer service.
Elective Courses (Select a minimum of one):
- BUS. 150 Entrepreneurship - Small Business Management (3 units): Provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to start and manage a small business.
- COSM 670 Vocational Cooperative Education in Cosmetology (1.5 units): Allows students to gain hands-on experience in a professional salon setting.
- COSM 717 Advanced Makeup (3 units): Develops students' skills in makeup application, including special effects makeup.
- COSM 725 State Board Written Exam Preparation (3 units): Prepares students for the California State Board Cosmetology written exam.
- COSM 737 Advanced Natural Haircare and Braiding (3 units): Covers advanced techniques for natural hair care and braiding.
- COSM 767 Eyelash Enhancements (1.5 units): Teaches students the techniques for applying eyelash extensions and other eyelash enhancements.
