Instrumental Education Program

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Education - Music - Grades K-12 Certification - Instrumental Emphasis degree at MSSU prepares students to teach music to K-12 students. The program combines music theory, history, and performance with pedagogical techniques to equip students with the knowledge and skills to empower students through music. Graduates are qualified to become elementary/secondary level music teachers or pursue careers in marching bands and school orchestras.

• Overview: The Bachelor of Science in Education - Music - Grades K-12 Certification - Instrumental Emphasis degree at MSSU prepares students to teach music to K-12 level students.
The Education portion of the degree offers students the chance to learn teaching methods (pedagogy) and includes student teaching.
• Objectives: The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to empower students through a knowledge of music and musical performance.
• Program Description: The program combines coursework in music theory, music history, marching methods, arranging, conducting, strings, brass, percussion, and woodwinds with pedagogical techniques to help young students learn the basics of music.
