The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at Mercy College is designed to prepare aspiring and existing healthcare professionals for healthcare leadership roles. The program provides a broad base of knowledge so that graduates are prepared to lead in the value-based healthcare environment.
Program Overview:
The program is fully online, allowing students to study whenever and wherever they want, even while working full time. The MHA program is 6 semesters in length and focuses on one, 3-credit hour course at a time. The maximum class size is 25 students. Prior healthcare work experience is not required for admission to the program.
Program Objectives:
Upon completion of the Master of Health Administration program, the graduate will be able to:
- Explain the legislative, regulatory, political, and consumerism impact on the environment of healthcare and the components of healthcare delivery systems in the United States.
- Demonstrate the essential business principles required for the stewardship of healthcare organizations.
- Evaluate the professional and ethical standards of decision-making within the management and delivery of healthcare, including inclusion and diversity within employee and patient populations and other related complex health issues.
- Analyze population health management strategies in the delivery of value-based healthcare, utilizing health information science, technologies, and analytics to drive evidence-based decisions in the management of care.
- Demonstrate effective communication and human resource practices in the management of healthcare organizations.
- Inspire individual and organizational excellence and successfully lead change to attain the healthcare organization's strategic initiatives.

This means greater needs for physicians and other healthcare workers, medical procedures, and healthcare facilities, and therefore greater needs for managers who organize and manage medical information and healthcare staff. Candidates with a master's degree in health administration or a related field will likely have the best prospects.
