Program Overview
This three-year degree program provides a comprehensive foundation in management principles and practices. Students develop skills in organizational behavior, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. The program includes a placement year option for practical experience and culminates in a strategic business project. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in various industries, including retail, project management, and business operations.
Program Outline
Outline:
- Year One: Focuses on organizational environment and decision-making processes at junior management level. Covers core concepts of current management and organizational behavior, fundamentals of business policy, marketing, and strategy. Develops necessary skills and knowledge for study in years two and three.
- Year Two: Builds on knowledge gained in year one, with a focus on specialized areas such as financial management, entrepreneurship, and the development of business practices.
- Placement Year (optional): Work placement in a related field provides practical experience.
- Year Three: Deals with strategic management principles, organizational design, and strategic marketing. Conducts a strategic business project on a management issue.
Assessment:
Learning outcomes of modules, assignments, and projects are clearly stated. Work is marked according to achievement of learning outcomes, with feedback referring to each outcome and providing an overall percentage grade. Assessment methods include practical class and project performance, written practical reports, project thesis, oral presentations, tutorial tasks, and assessments at the end of each six-week block.
Teaching:
Teaching methods include lectures, blended learning approaches, workshops, group work, open-door policy, and email and online platform availability. Progression through modules develops knowledge and skills, including communication (written and oral), study skills, research methods, project management, presentation, and career development.
Careers:
- Graduates can apply their degree in any industry and into a number of positions, including retail manager, project management, and business officers.
- CU graduates from this subject area have gone to work in industries such as recruitment, finance, and retail, in companies such as The Immigration Service, Tesco, and Transport for London.
- Other CU graduates have also progressed on to study a master’s in subjects such as International Business Management, International Marketing, Business and Organisation Psychology, and Human Resources.
