Helping Interventions in a Multicultural Society [Graduate Certificate]
Program Overview
This Advanced Certificate Program is designed for individuals with a master's degree in a helping field who seek training in working with diverse populations. It includes 11 hours of required courses in counselor development, cross-cultural counseling, case management, and multicultural counseling, plus 4 hours of restricted electives. The program also features a 100-clock-hour supervised counseling practicum experience.

Degree Overview:
This program is designed for individuals who already possess a master's degree in a helping field (e.g., counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice, nursing, etc.) or concurrently completing such a graduate degree. The Advanced Certificate Program is a 12-15 semester-hour program that provides training in working with diverse populations in various settings. Candidates selected for this program are expected to make a major commitment to their graduate training and enroll in coursework regularly. The program includes a 100-clock-hour supervised counseling practicum experience. The program does not meet Michigan's academic and internship requirements for limited licensure as a professional counselor (LLPC). It cannot be used to supplement a previous master's degree to become eligible for the LLPC. - COUN 571 Cross-cultural Counseling (3 hrs)
- COUN 660 Case Management: Using Community Resources in Counseling (2 hrs)
- COUN 671 Advanced Multicultural Counseling (3 hrs)
