Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction is a 30-credit hour online program designed to enhance educators' knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Individual Modules:
CURR 656 Curriculum Design, Implementation and Evaluation (3 hrs)
- This course examines the theoretical and practical aspects of curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. Students will learn how to develop and implement effective curriculum that is aligned with state and national standards, and how to assess student learning to ensure that the curriculum is meeting its goals.
LTEC 602 Technology and Student-Centered Learning (3 hrs)
- This course will provide students with an overview of the latest educational technologies, and how to use them to create engagi ng and student-centered learning experiences. Students will learn how to use technology to differentiate instruction, support struggling learners, and promote collaboration between students.
SFCE 655 Education for Justice: Toward a Diverse, Democratic and Sustainable Society (3 hrs)
- This course is offered by the Center for Social Justice and Human Rights, and will help students to understand the importance of diversity, democracy, and sustainability in education. Students will learn how to create an inclusive and just learning environment for all students, and how to use their teaching to promote social justice.
CURR 650 Improving Instruction through Inquiry and Assessment (3 hrs)
- This course will help students to develop their skills in inquiry-based teaching and assessment. Students will learn how to use data to inform their instructional decisions, and how to assess student learning in a way that is both fair and informative.
CURR 665 Differentiation in the Classroom (3 hrs)
- This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Students will learn how to create a differentiated classroom environment, and how to use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
CURR 670 Curriculum & Teaching Strategies for 21st Century (3 hrs)
- This course will help students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to teach in the 21st century classroom. Students will learn about the latest research on teaching and learning, and how to use technology to create innovative and engaging learning experiences for students.
CURR 674 Creating Culturally Responsive Classrooms (3 hrs)
- This course will help students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to create culturally responsive classrooms. Students will learn about the importance of culture in education, and how to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and supportive of all students.
EDLD 515 Instructional Leadership (3 hrs)
- This course is designed to help teachers develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective instructional leaders. Students will learn how to develop and implement effective instructional programs, and how to support teachers in their professional development.
EDLD 517 Leadership for School Improvement (3 hrs)
- This course is designed to help teachers develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective school leaders. Students will learn how to create a positive and productive school culture, and how to lead their schools to improve student achievement.
RDNG 630 Literacy Instruction in a Multilingual Society (3 hrs)
- This course examines literacy instruction in a multilingual society and examines different literacy frameworks, research, and methodologies, while providing opportunities to work with multilingual students and develop pedagogical skills to support their specific linguistic, academic, and cultural needs.
RDNG 657 Comprehension and the Content Areas (3 hrs)
- This course focuses on developing literacy skills with an emphasis on comprehension and understanding for the content areas.
Assessment:
Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in all graduate-level courses taken at EMU and in their program of study to remain in good academic standing and be eligible for graduation.
