Degree Overview:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program at the University of New England (UNE) is an eight-semester program that combines classroom coursework, laboratory coursework, and three full-time clinical experiences. The program prepares students to become compassionate PT leaders who support the wellness of patients and communities.

Outline:

The program's curriculum blends coursework, lab work, and three full-time clinical experiences. The coursework focuses initially on the foundational sciences, providing a base of knowledge in normal human structure and function. Next, students engage in evidence-based approaches to the physical therapy management of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. They learn both the functional and psychosocial impacts of health conditions, relevant medical and surgical interventions, and the physical therapy tests, measures, and interventions.

Teaching:

UNE's expert faculty are established PT leaders who take the time to see and mentor each student. Students also benefit from learning alongside UNE students who are future physicians, nurses, and other health professionals.

Careers:

100% of UNE D.P.T. students are employed within one year of graduation (2021 survey). Graduates have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and outpatient clinics.
