Program Overview


The Foundation Studies in Medicine (FSM) program at the University of Newcastle is a pathway for international students to enter the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine program. The one-of-a-kind program consists of eight core courses and provides students with a strong foundation in the sciences and academic skills necessary for medical studies. Successful applicants receive a packaged offer for both the FSM and the Joint Medical Program, and are exempt from the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).

  • English for Academic Purposes
  • Introduction to Academic Communication
  • IT for Academic Studies
  • Australian Studies
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Human Biology
  • Introductory Mathematics

Careers:

  • Successful applicants receive a packaged offer for both the FSM and the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program [JMP]).
  • FSM students are exempt from having to sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).
  • Students who are not offered a place in the JMP will be considered for a place in an alternative degree of their choosing (and subject to a quota-ed place availability and achieving the required average score).
