Program Overview
The Music Performance (voice) program at The Ohio State University is a Bachelor of Music degree that focuses on developing students' performance skills. Program Objectives:
Upon completion of the Music Performance (voice) program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate professional-level competence in their area of specialization, including technical mastery, the ability to work independently, and a coherent set of artistic/intellectual goals.
- Engage in applied studies each semester to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for graduate programs and professional careers in the field.
- Complete coursework in music theory, music history, and area-specific literature and pedagogy to gain the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience for professional careers in the field.
- Communicate musical ideas, concepts, and requirements to professionals and laypeople through musical, oral, written, and visual media.
- Gain knowledge and experience in pedagogical methodologies in their area of specialization.
- Understand the nature of the music field in the professional world, including organizational structures, work ethics, technological resources, and entrepreneurial skills.

Study Abroad:
The Office of International Affairs offers over 100 study abroad programs in 40 different countries. Students can take classes through an exchange program or foreign university, complete an independent study or service-learning project, conduct research, or participate in an internship program.
Internship:
Students are encouraged to find educational, performance, and administrative internship opportunities with local arts organizations such as the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, Opera Columbus, and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
Honors and Scholars:
The Arts Honors Program is open to students pursuing majors in the arts (Art, Art Education, Dance, Design, Music, Theatre) in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program provides opportunities for students with exceptional capabilities and motivation to achieve personal satisfaction and intellectual growth through honors courses, advanced coursework, and special academic enrichment programs. The Arts Scholars program is open to students majoring in any university college or department. The program offers students the opportunity to participate in programs that enhance their educational experience, such as lectures, specialized workshops, group excursions to museums and professional performances, a juried student art exhibition and performance showcase, community involvement, and trips outside of Columbus.

Students with a degree in Music Performance (voice) have a variety of career opportunities. Some pursue professional careers as performers, while others continue their education in graduate school to become applied music professors, music historians, or music theorists. Some take professional auditions, participate in performance competitions, or establish private studios for giving music lessons. Others move into business and industry or other music-related careers, such as arts management.
