This Bachelor's Degree in Arts Major in Climate and Social Justice equips students with a critical understanding of the social impacts of climate change. Graduates are prepared to make a meaningful impact on a greener, more equitable future, and pursue careers as sustainability and climate change consultants, government relations coordinators, environmental officers, community advocates or development officers, and policy analysts.
Objectives:
The program combines the study of climate change with a focus on the world's most pressing problems to develop critical thinking, communication skills, cultural competency, digital literacy, and confidence in making a difference. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of key concepts while developing transferable skills in complex problem-solving and critical thinking.
Outline:
This three-year, full-time program is offered at Swinburne's Hawthorn campus. The program includes 300 credit points of coursework, including core units, major units, and elective units.
Year One:
Students complete 100 credit points of coursework, including core units such as Technology and Society, Environment and Society: Problems and Solutions, as well as elective units.
Year Two:
Students complete an additional 100 credit points of coursework, including core units like Skills and Strategies for Social Change, History, Politics and Human Rights, Resistance, Activism and Empowerment, and a range of major units and electives. This year may also include an optional professional work placement.
Year Three:
Students complete their remaining 100 credit points of coursework, including core units such as Changemakers in Action and BA Professional Practice, additional major units, and electives.
Assessment:
Students are assessed through coursework, examinations, presentations, and written assignments.
Teaching:
The program is taught by a team of experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields.
