  • 4 core units
  • 12 elective units
  • 70 hours of work placement

Course Schedule:

  • Online delivery, part-time
  • Two years of study
  • Two units per block over two years
  • Each block is nine weeks
  • Scheduled webinars (video conferencing) every two weeks for each unit
  • Webinars are recorded for review
  • Two optional library excursions in Melbourne per year

  • Identify & resolve client ICT problems: Troubleshoot and resolve common ICT issues faced by library clients, providing technical support and guidance.
  • Consolidate & maintain library industry knowledge: Stay abreast of current trends and developments in the library industry, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of best practices and emerging technologies.

Elective Units:

  • Search library and information databases: Master advanced search techniques to effectively navigate library databases and retrieve relevant information.
  • Use advanced functions of integrated library management systems: Utilize advanced features of library management systems to manage library operations, including cataloguing, circulation, and user services.
  • Promote literature & reading: Develop strategies to promote reading and literacy, fostering a love of literature and encouraging lifelong learning.
  • Develop community & stakeholder relationships in a library environment: Build and maintain relationships with the community and stakeholders, understanding their needs and tailoring library services accordingly.
  • Develop & promote library activities, events & public programs: Plan and implement engaging library activities, events, and public programs that cater to diverse audiences and promote the library's role in the community.
  • Undertake cataloguing activities: Apply cataloguing principles and standards to organize and describe library materials, ensuring accessibility and discoverability.
