Course Descriptions
- FIL 1010: Introduction to Film - This course provides an overview of the history, theory, and aesthetics of film. Students will view and analyze a variety of films, and will learn how to write about film.
- FIL 1150: Introduction to Digital Cinema - This course introduces students to the principles of digital filmmaking. Topics include camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and editing. Students will complete several short digital films.
- FIL 1261: Video Editing I - This course introduces students to the basic principles of video editing, including how to use editing software to cut, paste, and assemble video clips. Students will also learn how to add transitions, effects, and music to their videos.
- FIL 1262: Video Editing II - This course builds on the skills learned in Video Editing I. Students will learn how to edit more complex video projects, including how to use multiple video tracks, audio tracks, and effects. Students will also learn how to create titles, menus, and DVDs.
- FIL 1410: Introduction to Lighting for Digital Film and Video - This course introduces students to the principles of lighting for digital film and video. Topics include the different types of lighting instruments, how to use light to create different moods and atmospheres, and how to light for different camera formats. Students will complete several lighting exercises.
- FIL 1510: Directing for Digital Film and Video - This course introduces students to the principles of directing for digital film and video. Topics include how to develop a story, how to work with actors, and how to create a visual style.
