Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is offered through the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at MTSU. Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that covers the use of data to make decisions, gain insight, or develop knowledge. Data scientists combine skills from computer science, statistics, and business analytics. Students will start from a business understanding of the question at hand, using it to inform and understand the data available, then use skills in the preparation and display of data and in the modeling of data to evaluate the issue at hand. Finally, they will deploy the model they created to ensure that it is widely usable. Creating Data-Driven Problem Solvers - Students earning a bachelor's degree in data science will take courses in programming, statistics, analytics, database, and machine learning as well as selecting a concentration in either Inferential Thinking, Business Intelligence, or Advanced Machine Learning. Students will also be able to put those skills to use through 'real-world' projects. This is a degree that truly makes you career ready through courses and experiences. A capstone course and the opportunity for internships allow students to follow the process of data science in a real-world setting and will ensure that they have a portfolio of work to show prospective employers.
