The Master of Philosophy (Public Health) is a two-year full-time research degree offered by the University of Adelaide. The program aims to train students in research methodology and techniques and engage them in the critical evaluation of literature and results in their field of research at an advanced level. Graduates of the program are well-placed to progress to independent research at the doctoral level.
Outline:
The Master of Philosophy (Public Health) comprises an independent, supervised research project mutually agreed upon by the student, their supervisors, and the Head of School. Students can choose to undertake the degree by either 100% research or by mixed research and coursework. Students in the 100% research stream complete their degree entirely through the completion of a thesis. Students in the mixed research and coursework stream complete one-third of the degree (15 units) through coursework and the remaining two-thirds through research, resulting in a proportionally smaller thesis. All coursework can be selected, in consultation with supervisors, from relevant Master by Coursework or Honours level courses offered by the University. In addition to their research and coursework, all Master of Philosophy students are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours of relevant professional development activities through the University's Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) program.
Assessment:
The assessment of the Master of Philosophy (Public Health) thesis is based on the following criteria:
