Program Overview


This graduate program offers two options: a Thesis Option with 12 credit hours of electives and a 12-credit hour thesis, or a Project Option with 18 credit hours of electives and a 6-credit hour project. All students must take the mandatory Graduate Seminar for at least two semesters. Assessment includes an oral presentation of the thesis/project proposal, a written thesis/project report, and a public oral defense.

  • Graduate Seminar (CHEM 714-1.5): Mandatory course for all students, to be taken for at least two semesters.

Thesis Option:

  • Electives: Minimum of 12 credit hours of graduate-level electives (600 level or above), with a maximum of 6 credit hours from independent studies.
  • Thesis (CHEM 794-12): 12 credit hours, involving an original research program and thesis preparation.

Project Option:

  • Electives: Minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate-level electives (600 level or above), with a maximum of 6 credit hours from independent studies.
  • Project (CHEM 793-6): 6 credit hours, involving an independent investigation resulting in a scientific contribution.

Assessment:

  • Oral presentation of thesis/project proposal to supervisory committee
